Data Berlin #28
Fresh data jobs in Berlin this week, from analytics to AI
Yesterday was International Women’s Day, which in Berlin is actually a public holiday. The city was full of marches, panels, and events celebrating women’s achievements and pushing for more equality, including in tech.
And it’s a good reminder that the tech and data world still needs more diverse voices. Berlin’s startup ecosystem is slowly improving, with more women working across data, AI, and engineering every year, but there’s still plenty of room for progress.
In the meantime, companies across the city are hiring. If you’re looking for your next role in data, analytics, or AI, here are some opportunities currently open.
📖Interesting Readings
AI is commoditizing dashboards and BI, and Sven Balnojan argues the real opportunity now is “decision infrastructure”: products that model decisions as first‑class objects, connect expectations to outcomes, and shorten decision cycle time for operators and executives. – What comes after analytics
AI is used as a pair‑programmer to turn business requirements on a whiteboard into an end‑to‑end modeling workflow, reading a PRD, exploring the warehouse, proposing an ERD, and generating analytics models plus docs in one loop. – Hands-On Claude Code for Data Engineers: Data Modeling with dbt, Miro & PostgreSQL Using Skills & MCPs
Agents and new tools are collapsing weeks of coding into minutes and will force a shift from batch‑centric dashboards to probabilistic, action‑oriented, multimodal systems. Data engineering fundamentals still matter, but engineers will increasingly design and oversee AI‑driven architectures and decision systems instead of just building traditional pipelines. - The Great Data Engineering Reset: From Pipelines to Agents and Beyond - Joe Reis at Froward Data Conference
We’ve piled tools and abstractions on top of each other until our stacks look like fractals—easy to build, hard to understand—so before adding yet another layer, we should ask what problem it really solves, what happens if we skip it, and who will own it when it inevitably turns into liability instead of leverage. – Layer by Layer, We Built Data Systems No One Understands
Analytics only creates real value when it’s anchored in the company’s real strategic bets (and the tiny “window of opportunity” data teams actually have), so this piece is a great read if you’re tired of checklist audits, random requests, and want your work to genuinely influence product and growth decisions. – It's about the strategy, stupid
☕ Upcoming Meetups & Events
🧠 Hackathon – Data Berlin
Ready to build instead of just bookmarking tutorials? This community hackathon by Data Berlin is a full-on day of hands-on data work: form a team, pick an idea, and turn raw datasets into something real, a pipeline, a dashboard, an experiment, or a beautifully over-engineered MVP.
Expect a mix of hacking, learning, and spontaneous knowledge-sharing, whether you come with a project in mind or just curiosity. Perfect if you want to try new tools, meet the Berlin data crowd, and leave with fresh skills (and probably new friends).
Hosted by Snowflake and sponsored by Collate and Lightdash, with the support and a hack challenge from our friends at JustWatch.

And that’s it for this week.
If you apply to one of these and end up building dashboards that no one opens, training models that product ignores, or fixing pipelines at 2am — congratulations, you’re officially part of the Berlin data ecosystem.
If not, no worries. At the very least you now have conversation material for your next startup meetup, coworking kitchen chat, or awkward networking event in Mitte.
