Data Berlin #26
Spring is around the corner; here’s what’s new in Berlin data.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics have wrapped up, the last snow is melting into questionable sidewalk puddles, and Berliners are once again pretending 12°C is t-shirt weather.
While the city comes out of hibernation, the data market clearly never slept: new roles across analytics, platform and AI just dropped, there’s a hands-on meetup to get your brain back into building mode, and a fresh batch of reads for those first long, bright evenings that don’t end at 4pm anymore.
Less darkness, more data: let’s get into it!
We need your help
We want to make the Data Berlin Newsletter more interesting for our readers and better tailored to your needs. So, we’re asking you to answer this one simple question and tell us how we can improve.
📖Interesting Readings
After 40 years of the same data-modeling messaging, 89% of practitioners still struggle—so the problem is how we teach and who has ownership, not “people not getting it.” – The Insanity of Data Education
Rushing dashboards past validation trades long-term cost and risk for short-term speed; push back with trade-offs or document who owns the risk. – Why 'Hurry Up' is Bankrupting Your Data Strategy
If you’re building or evaluating AI analytics agents, Metabase’s post shows why “perfect in isolation” parts break in production and how to fix it: treat the system as context engineering, give the LLM clear signals at each step, and design for messy data and vague questions—not demo benchmarks. – Lessons learned from building AI analytics agents: build for chaos
Data engineering isn’t turning into AI engineering—it’s expanding: pipelines now feed RAG, agents, and observability, and “quality” means semantic context for LLMs, not just correct types, so fixing old shortcuts (docs, metadata, tests) is what makes AI systems work. – What A Time To Be A Data Engineer (On Steroids)
